Masters Of Surf Photography - Warren Bolster

Details

Warren Bolster began surf photography in early 1970s California, and is still active from his home base in Honolulu, Hawaii. From shooting the underground Newbreak crew at Sunset Cliffs in the early 70s, and covering the mid-70s skateboard revolution as editor of Skateboarder magazine, to his recent split-level images that examine dual realities by peering above and beneath the ocean surface simultaneously, to technically amazing speed-blurrs that via freeze motion deliver the sensation of the wave dance, to stomach fluttering aerial vistas of outer reef cloud breaks, and his camera board perspectives that look out from behind the surfer buried deep in the curl, Warren’s photography confronts the viewer with a dazzling array of intense visual portrayals of the surfing experience.

Masters Of Surf Photography - Tom Servais

Details

Tom has been a primary contributor to Surfer magazine since the mid-’70s. Highly organized and technically knowledgeable, Tom has developed a broad file of outstanding portraiture, studio work and photo-survey projects, but he is most known for his intense surf action. Although a bit older than the young standouts he usually focuses on, he is so young and active in spirit that he has become travel mates with the young-guns of today’s surfing. This lets him into their sphere where he records the highlights of their amazing talents. No one has covered the wave phenomena of Teahupoo in Tahiti more than Servais, and he frequents Cloudbreak on Tavarua, Fiji, so often you would think he lives there. The results are in evidence in this volume.

Pioneer Series Volume 1 - LeRoy Grannis

Details

Surfing's Golden Age 1960-1969 This is the first book of its type ever published: a large format coffee-table monograph, focused on one of the most remarkable decades in the evolution of surfing, featuring the photography of one of its primary chroniclers; and Granny, being one of our most beloved surf photographer grand daddies, is richly deserving of the attention. As edited by Brad Barrett, who infused issues of late-'60s Surfer with his deft and precise take on surf soul, Photo: Grannis mixes the qualities of a scholarly tome with a taste of irreverent scat, in the process becoming a revealing look back for those who didn't make the scene, and a sentimental journey for those of us who did.

Pioneer Series Volume 3 - Ron Church Boxed edition

Details

Pioneer Series Volume 3 - Ron Church Boxed edition (Boxed numbered and in a slip case) In the early 1960s, Ron Church turned his experienced eye to surfing. With a background in both aquanaut and ’50s flight-test photography, with La Jolla, California roots, Church became captivated with the sport just as it was beginning to morph from a sleepy, evocative pastime into a full-on commercialized lifestyle. From ’60 –’65, Church recorded its last bits of innocence beginning in California, moving to Oahu’s big-wave fields, and then back to California. Acclaimed graphic designer/publisher Tom Adler creates small-run collectable art books featuring surf photography (i.e., Don James: San Onofre to Point Dume, 1936-1941, Dora Lives, and Surfing Photographs From The Seventies Taken By Jeff Divine). Adler utilizes his own distinctive eye to select and combine offbeat, subtle images that end up making magic on the pages. This, his second book from the files of Ron Church (following SURF CONTEST, published early 2006) is an exploratory joint effort between The Journal and T. Adler Books.
